The Works

From preparatory drawing to finished canvas — three languages, one voice

In praise of the unconscious

"Be Simple With Art" — "Patience is the key to well-being"

The work of Ksenija Tropsek immerses us in a profoundly dreamlike and symbolic universe. Through compositions oscillating between organic abstraction and fragmented figuration, the artist invites the viewer into a mental space where logic gives way to intuition and introspection.

Her work is characterised by a fascinating mastery of sinuous lines and arabesques. Whether exploring subtle monochromatic palettes — sepia, brown or grey tones — or venturing into vibrant compositions in warm, rosy hues, the dominant form remains fluidity. These undulating lines evoke floating hair, intertwined roots, streams of energy crossing the canvas.

The artist integrates a philosophical dimension by inserting handwritten aphorisms at the heart of the work, transforming the canvas into a space for personal meditation.

A distinctive visual vocabulary emerges: fragmented anatomy — creative hands, isolated feet, a giant floating ear — bears witness to a human body deconstructed and fused with its environment. The chessboard pattern recurs frequently, offering a rational ground that violently contrasts with the soft, irrational forms above it. Elements linked to music, chance and architecture punctuate this singular universe.

Sources of inspiration and artistic affiliations. Although the artist possesses a singular voice, her work stands at the crossroads of several major heritages in art history.

Surrealism

Dalí, Magritte, de Chirico — The juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated objects evokes the mechanisms of dreams. The ever-present chessboard creates a stage for the absurd.

Art Nouveau

Alphonse Mucha — Fluid forms and looping interlaces borrow from the ornamental elegance of Art Nouveau, yet serve a psychological rather than purely decorative purpose.
